Immigrating to Norway is part of the grand scheme, a sacrifice Maya is more than willing to make for her parents. But she'll find that what should be a peaceful transition carries with it more baggage than she intends. The death of her parents in a tragic accident seems only to compound those struggles, but Maya is adamant on finding a way for herself. Good graces bless her with the acquaintance of a young man, Tor, who refuses to allow her spirits to waver. In her spellbinding Novella, Maria Johnsen weaves a tale of an unlikely union than spans across years of tumult. Between her reluctance to fully assimilate into foreign culture, long bouts of joblessness, and struggling to maintain a passionate relationship, Maya becomes susceptible to the supernatural. Her supernatural romance tugs at the hearts of readers, pulling them along right until the smashing conclusion that transcends the boundaries between genres. Maria Johnsen has done it again. I was unable to put the book down! It was an intricate combination of international travel, social commentary, romance, and afterlife experience. The main character, Maya, was so real that I started crying with empathy for her at one point. The dialogue, especially, was true-to-life and kept the story line moving realistically. I could feel the feelings of the people in the book.I couldn't put down the last book I read by her, either:Roses And Chocolates: A TrueI read a nonfiction book from this author which helped me with sales. So i decided to try her fiction book.. This was a well written and inspirational novella involving supernatural forces and an intriguing adventure. The character development is detailed and very well written. I am looking forward to reading Johnsen's other book.
I really enjoyed reading the afternoon when she died. The story starts with excitement, then something amazing happens that got me to read the entire story without putting it down. There were no grammar and editing issues. I loved the characters especially Maya and the old couples in the cemetery. Maria Johnsen is a really talented author. Another great aspect of this book is that it illustrates the issues that young immigrants are struggling in Norway. People face with issues which they have no
Loved the story. A great twist of suspense and paranormal. Great dialogues and very well written.
Ik vond deze novella leuk over het spookverhaal.
A brilliant romantic ghost story. The protagonist Maya faced with a lot of challenges which she has no control over. I felt sorry for her. I wonder how this novella looks like on the screen of movie theaters. I really enjoyed the ending.
