PASSION IN PROVENCE:Ben and Lee Alto follow Van Gogh’s 19th century path to Provence, hoping to find inspiration for their own lives and give their son, Misha, some insight into a world completely different from their own. They find art, of course, and a world of beautiful landscapes, warm temperatures, and, yes, wonderful food. But they also find a ghost of their past, and it’s not Vincent Van Gogh but a woman Ben once loved and a man, Zach, a well-known jazz musician, who teach them some hard lessons about art and life, as well as the art of life.
A SUMMER OF GOOD-BYES resonates with the warmth of France’s southern sun, famous artists, and violent conflicts. It’s a vital, romantic story filled with the tensions of love and marriage, sexual longing and family loyalty, and the struggle to live in the face of impending death and loss.

A bit choppy in areas with mixed topics and dialogue. A romance novel focused on a woman wanting to have a baby. Adoption seems to be the best choice of careful consideration. Wrought with despair and difficulty with pregnancy, Russia seemed to be a viable choice. The author's profile is extensive with Writing, Ancient Art and History. The narrator of this story is an art critic and foster parent, with his fair share of lifes challenges, including infertility treatment, a miscarrying partner and living through the worry and anxiety of the 9/11 attack. The author writes in a tantalising way, making us readers have to piece together what is happening. He leaves sufficient space in his narrative, opting not to spoon-feed readers. Misurella maintains tension at just the right level, making you want to read on and discover more.
Ben Alta is an art critic and professor, living an ordinary life with his artist wife Lee and son Misha until the tragic events of 9/11 trigger a revelation that threatens to undo his family. In an attempt to salvage his world, Ben takes his family on a summer abroad in the French countryside, hoping that the art and history will be the perfect atmosphere to strengthen their bond. But then, an unexpected face from Ben's past crosses their path, forcing Ben to question everything he thought he
Fred Misurella's novel, A Summer of Good-Byes, is a fascinating account of the marital shocks that leas to the growth in Bend and Lee Alto's relationship. In the process, Ben, as a supportive friend to an old lover, is able to let go of his sense of loss and come to a feeling of equilibrium. The novel's opening chapter is a straightforward account of an American couple's trip deep into Russia to adopt a baby boy. It is a journey that is at every moment simultaneously ordinary and extraordinary.
