I have always wanted to read a Stephen King but since am not into horror genre, I maintained a secure distance between me and books by one of the most famous authors. So when my friend recommended it to me I decided to finally read Mr. King and am glad that I read this.Story revolved around the inmates of Cold Mountain Prison who are there for murdering someone waiting for their death on Old Sparky, an Electric chair. Story is told by prison's warden Paul Edgecombe. Life was pretty much simpleI have never seen the movie or read the book so this book gripped me right away! Seriously, one of the best novels I have ever read. I absolutely loved it. The characters were so intriguing and well developed and the plot was astounding! I know it was original released in parts and I cannot even begin to think how long the wait between parts felt. I read the complete serial novel and found myself up until after 4 a.m. this morning because I did not want to stop reading. Incredible book!!
What a masterpiece! Stephen King has done a lot of scaring through his books but never has he broken my heart like he did with The Green Mile. Even though there were elements of horror, after all, we had an electric chair called 'Old Sparky', this novel felt more like a tale of fantasy at times. I'm sure most people have seen the movie version and in this case it was very true to the book. Still, this poignant piece of horror classic will go down as one of my favorites. This book was flawless
One of Stephen King's more disturbing novels, but well-written, intense and eerie, with a haunting plot and original characters, it's definitely unforgettable.
One of Kings best, up there with The Shining and The Stand.King is able to terrify because he is adept at drawing us into a scene, luring the reader in with deft characterization and attention to detail that creates empathy and understanding. In Francis Ford Coppolas brilliant The Godfather part II, in the scene where a young Vito Corleone (played by Robert De Niro) shoots Fanucci, he wrapped his pistol in a towel and the cloth catches fire after the shots. That detail has stayed in my mind in
This book just gets more brilliant and heart breaking every single time I read it. I always think Im prepared for the emotions Im about to feel but I never am and it destroys me every single damn time! Its just such a heartbreakingly beautiful story, it touches on every emotion and just makes me feel so much. And when it comes down to it, I think thats what makes it such an excellent story. Theres horror and heartbreak and anger and everything in between and its all woven together so perfectly
