Linda Watkins has given us an extremely well-written and well-crafted novel in "Mateguas Island." Well-defined characters provide the realistic touch, with two of the main characters (Karen and her husband Bill) particularly conflicted as they strive to deal with their new place of residence on the island, as well as their rocky marriage. Just as in real life, these two characters in particular sincerely wish to re-discover the happiness they once had, but are unable to resist some of the
Mateguas Island: A novel of terror and suspense by Linda Watkins is a fun novel full of mystery and Native American folklore. You add in some love, betrayal, secrets and sex makes it a must read that will keep the reader glued to every page. The book starts out normal enough following a young couple, Bill and Karen Anderson and their twin girls, Sophie and Terri, as they make a cross country trek after Bill loses his job. It is after they settle in their new house on the tiny island off the coast

Having lived on a small island off the coast of Maine myself, it was so easy to fall into step with Lindas characters and their joys and struggles of adjusting to island life after life dealt them a bad hand. I loved every minute of the local humour and draw, making me get a little home sick for the seclusion of the island.Once she began to introduce all the strange and creepy goings on surrounding Bill and Karens new old home, it was just over the top and I couldnt put the book down.
Mateguas Island is an excellent horror novel. It's success lies in the fact that Linda Watkins builds believable - and identifiable - characters, which only ramps ups the suspense as the novel unfolds. Highly recommended for fans of the genre, and fans of good books in general.
Have you ever read a book that was so bad it actually made you angry each and every moment you read it? I can't explain why I felt compelled to finish this book and I wish I could take back that time and do something more enjoyable like flossing or clipping my toenails. My faith in Goodreads has declined significantly if this is the 26th best Gothic novel of all time. Seriously??? The WORST book I have read this year.
Prepare to bite your nails off! All they wanted was a fresh start, a place where they could put all the past behind, and concentrate on the family life. But sometimes a new beginning is not necessarily a good beginning. Even when you might think its an opportunity to clear the table or when your intensions are good, the human nature can easily ruin whatever you had planned for.For Andersen family, what started as an adventure, ended as something you wouldnt wish for your worse enemy. A paradise
