Relation During Books Saint Francis
Ο φτωχούλης του Θεού = Phtochoules tou Theou = God's Pauper: st. Francis of Assisi a Novel = Saint Francis, Nikos KazantzakisFrancis of Assisi, whose renunciation of his young man’s life of leisure and founding of a religious order dedicated to living in poverty and sharing the Gospels with all living things profoundly influence the ways in which Christians the world over worship and give service to their god even today. Recounted in Nikos Kazantzakis’s striking prose through the eyes of the saint’s brother, Leo, the life of Saint Francis shines in these pages as a heroic example of inspirational leadership and boundless love for God and all His creatures.

"There is no harsher means of punishment, Brother Leo, than to answer malice with kindness" It's been some time, since I started to remember years based on the last book read. For 2019 it's #GodsPauper by Zakis. Perhaps the toughest encounter I had with a book. It took more than an year. Each page weighed so much. Beyond the label of spirituality, must say that the book is finesse critique of the life and times* of Saint Francis (*time that is still reluctant to tick a change). Sharp and subtle,In honor of the new Pope's election, my roommate named his T.V. Francis and I finally picked up Nikos Kazantzakis's novel Saint Francis, which has been on my shelf for two years. This book is told in the first person by Brother Leo, the title character's companion. The narrator, many of the other characters, and many of the events are true to history. Unfortunately, while Francis of Assisi is a compelling figure from history, the character in this book didn't work for me. His transformation is
This is an extraordinary book. After going to Assisi (twice! and I want to go again) I looked for a good book on St. Francis but failed to find one. I give 4 stars just because it took me a while to get into this...back and forth between "give it all up for God" and "hang on to the wonderful world he created." As Brother Leo says, both are legitimate, but he cannot let go of Francis and the challenge he presents. I think of this when I think of my friend and neighbor who is struggling so hard

I think I would have appreciated the book more if I haven't read The Last Temptation of Christ before. I was searching for this book for a while and my joy knew no bounds when I found it in the dusty corner of the library.Yes, I very much wanted to fall in love with the Little Pauper. But I just have to admit that Saint Francis failed to move me like Last Temptation. I admit that my lack of knowledge about Christianity might be a factor. Still, that didn't prevent me from loving Last Temptation
Let's just say this isn't my favorite book on Saint Francis of Assisi. Everything just seemed way too exaggerated for my tastes.
For me this was a slog. Must be honest. But still I come away with an appreciation for Saint Francis' enthusiasm, devotion, faith, energy.I found myself disturbed by his renunciation of pleasure, his lack of care for his body. "This food is too delicious!" he would say - "Let me put some ash from the fire in it." I guess he never wanted to be too comfortable. Some quotes:Speak freely, Brother Masseo. But I think I did something foolish, mad. It will make you angry. Madness, Brother Masseo, is the
A fictionalized account of the saint's life, as told by his assistant Brother Leo. A powerful, thought-provoking work. Kazantzakis ponders: How can there be two ways to Paradise, one of effort but also one of ease? How can there be Paradise as long as anyone is not saved (is in Hell)? Mostly, like Last Temptation, it was about struggle, but the struggle to shun the earthly in everything although it's noted that the urge for heaven can be a temptation as well (pride). I wondered how much is fact
